How to Find the Right Idea for Your Side Hustle

There’s nothing I’m more enthusiastic about than helping entrepreneurs find success. I’ve worked with numerous folks interested in starting their own company or side hustle, and there’s another BIG question I always get — and I bet it’s not exactly what you’d think that it is. (At least, it isn’t exactly what I thought it would be!)

The question which keeps emerging in one manner or another is this:

“How do I locate the ideal idea?”

Therefore many ambitious, self-motivated, and smart individuals have a desire to start something new but they’re convinced that in order to be successful, they require a big, impressive idea.

To find out that just is holding people back, I spent significant time exploring this challenge. That is when a pattern began to emerge.

Through my discussions with all aspiring entrepreneurs, I identified three kinds of people that are working to determine how to locate the right idea.

Do any of those sounds like you?

1. The Shaky Dreamer

Shaky dreamers feel like they don’t have a notion, but they actually do. And usually, it’s a very good idea. But they just don’t have sufficient belief or assurance that their idea is good enough to be the idea they ought to pursue.

They’re often on the lookout for a few external affirmation or go-ahead before moving forward and aren’t certain how to judge whether an idea is good enough to pursue or not. Sadly they also doubt whether they are capable enough in their own abilities to pursue their own idea or not.

If you have completed the research and you realize most of these items are accurate for your thought, you need to shove your fears aside and begin.

2. The Idea Machine

Idea machines do not only have one idea — they have a thousand and one ideas. Their struggle is narrowing down their own interests and committing to just 1 thought for long enough to truly see it through.

If you are an idea machine, then it is time to simply choose one and really go after it. That doesn’t mean none of your other ideas won’t ever see the light of day — you have only got to choose that will be the FIRST thought you tackle.

I often see people paralyzed looking for THE ONE or THE BEST idea. You will never be 100% certain. Locate the one which you feel most connected or you’re attracted to and START there. The only way to know which of your ideas will be the most successful is to attempt them.

3. The Hopeful Founder

Hopeful founders know they wish to begin something, but they actually have no idea what to do. They haven’t yet figured out what type of company would be best suited to their abilities, interests, and skills.

In order to come up with the ideal concept, you’ll need to do some serious self-reflection about who you are, what you like to do, and what you’re awesome at. Then, do a little research!

The Way to Find the Appropriate side gig for you

Step 1.This can vary from creative skills or business to what you do on your full-time job or even something you’d love to learn more about.

Step 2: Narrow down that list to an item you can find yourself spending a lot of time on.

Remember, you’re starting a new business on top of your full-time job. That means this should be something you are passionate about. You have to be dedicated, excited, and unceasing with this. If you want it to become a fulltime gig, then you’re likely to have to work when you are tired, putting in extra hours in addition to already busy days. But if it is worth all the effort, you will know.

Step 3: The 10-Person Rule

Step 4: Start generating valuable content

As soon as you’ve your feedback from the 10-Person Rule, it is time to get to work. You do not need to instantly have a product ready to market and you don’t need business cards yet (ever?). Simply put up a simple site and start creating content that is valuable. The audience you build by creating great content will form the base of your company in the future.
